Long Overdue!
It's been over a month since I last posted and I apologize!
We went to Myrtle Beach in mid-August and it was FANTASTIC! It was the first time going since I was about 4 years old and I LOVED it! I actually left there wanting to move there at some point in my life. The beach was great, the weather was perfect, and I had such a great time with my family and friends. The house we rented was just right and was in such a great location! I could go on and on about how wonderful it was but then again, if you've ever been, you already know!
Kenny is now playing flag football and in-line hockey. He's definitely keeping me very busy with running him to practices and games. It all worked out so that the two don't practice or have games on the same day but then that also means that a lot of my days or nights are busy with this sports. That's okay because he says he loves both of them so that's all I can ask for!
In addition to all of Kenny's sports stuff, I'm also in the middle of training (if that's what you want to call it) for running a 5k in October. If you know me, I don't run and I don't like running. At least that's what I've always said. I've ran a few times now and am starting to look forward to my weekly runs. The first time I ran it, I just did what I could. I ran but also walked some. The next time, I (along with my friend Amy who is also running the 5k) ran the entire thing without stopping. Granted, it took us over 38 minutes to do so but we didn't stop. We were very proud of ourselves until I got home and mentioned it to Rob. He had to prove (I guess to himself) that he could beat our time. Well I'd freaking hope so. He was in the Marines so he should be able to run faster than us. He finished it in 28 minutes and felt the need to gloat the rest of that evening. Whatever....
Rob's behavior didn't discourage us at all. We've slowly gotten better with our time, running it now in about 33 minutes. Another friend, Jason, keeps telling us that it shouldn't be about the time we finish but that we finish. Yeah, yeah. It's also about our time...and that's because of Rob! :-) Either way, I'm excited for the 5k as I've never done one before and will be glad to say I have. I'll continue to keep you posted (hopefully) on the progress or the run.

Soon we're off.....
The last time I blogged was after our VA beach trip: the good, the bad, the pink eye, and the broken toes! I've been lazy and haven't kept up but I'll try to mention if anything interesting has happened.
Let's see....on July 18th a bunch of us went to Ruth's Chris for a birthday dinner, Danielle's birthday dinner. Jason, being the great husband he is, planned this trip as a surprise. All he told her was when we had to leave and to dress up. Of course, this kept her guessing and guessing with no one telling her what the plan was. Once we got to the area it was in, we even passed it and she asked if we were going there, Jason said "ha you wish" and she dropped it. Had no idea! But...this is where we were going and she was super happy. I have never been before and have heard great things about it, along with fact that it always ends with a heavy price tag. That's pretty much what happened. Rob and I don't eat steak that often so we opted for the chicken. It was definitely good! Their sides are okay. I really liked their creamed spinach and their sweet potato casserole (or what I had of it). It definitely had a nice price tag as I think we were at about $100 tab or something but I'm glad I can now say I've been there.
Each month me, Danielle, and occasionally a few other people will go to Let's Dish. It's a place in Ashburn we've been visiting every month since May 2008. Some could say that's longer than their relationships last. We do look at it as a relationship in which we're extremely committed and where we go to prepare dinner meals and then take them home to freeze. If you know anything about me, you know I HATE cooking. This place helps me have meals that are pretty much already ready. I just have to heat and eat. Pretty simple - and I don't have to think about what to make for dinner. Anyway, for August, I was designated as the "Disher of the Month". Yay for me :) I only got this because they asked people why they dished and I guess they liked my reason. I may have been the only one to answer for all I know. Either way, I got a gift card out of it which was nice. Here is the picture they took of me for the newsletter:

Kenny was also in an "Intro to Golf" camp. I wasn't sure how he would like it because if you ask me, golf is hard. Maybe because I always want to swing the club like a baseball bat....who knows. But surprisingly, he LOVED it. He actually won a 'Best Overall' award for his age group - and no - not all the kids got awards. I would like for him to continue playing, especially if it's something he enjoys doing. It just sucks that it's an expensive hobby!
A bunch of us also went to the Kid Rock concert. It was a lot of fun and I must say, there's was probably a lot of alcohol being consumed. I say "probably" because after a while, does anyone ever remember exactly what happens? I think not. But it was a grand time and a preview of how crazy and how much fun the Buffet concert will be over Labor Day weekend.
Also, Rob's Jeep was broken into while it was parked in our driveway. I did accidentally make the mistake of not locking it that night when I drove it but that still does not justify someone coming onto our property and going thru our stuff. We were one of about 6 houses/cars that got hit that night. They stole his GPS and that was it because we don't keep anything else of value in our cars but it sucks they took that! Everyone things it was young kids that did it but no one knows for sure. Whoever did it definitely focused on unlocked cars with things that can be taken quickly. That did give Rob motivation to clean/straighten up the garage so he could park his car in it. Now it's save, secure, and locked up.
We've "started" the screened back deck we're adding to the house. I guess I should say Rob has started digging the holes for the footers. He got 1/2 of one dug before he realized it would be so much easier to rent a jackhammer because our ground is so rocky. I'm sure it will be a while before it's completed but I'll keep you updated.
Our family and the Grigsby's are getting ready to leave for a week long vacation to Myrtle Beach. I haven't been since I was REALLY young so I'm super excited about it. Rob's dad is staying at our house with the dogs while we're gone so at least we don't have to worry about them. I'm sure I'll blog about it, I just hope it's fun but not as eventful as the last beach trip. I'd really prefer not to make an Urgent Care trip in an unknown place!
Now you're all caught up. I guess a lot has gone on when it's all written out bc if this somehow got erased, I definitely wouldn't type it all out!

Just beachy!
This past weekend we went for a quick VA beach trip. It definitely wasn't long enough but it was a good taste of what to look forward to at Myrtle Beach in a month. I have never been to Myrtle but I keep hearing great things about it. We'll see....but hopefully it will be a place that I'll want to visit again.
Back to the VA beach trip....we left early Friday morning and stopped at Aunt Sarah's Pancake House on the way through. Yummy! I used to stop there on the way to the beach when I was a kid. Of course when you're a kid, the place seems so much larger than it is and I hope by stopping each time we go to VA beach, my kids will want to stop there when they get older as well. Here is where we met our other family beach companions, the Grigsbys. Breakfast was good...and then we were on the road again. Traffic wasn't too bad which was nice for a change. We arrive around 1pm and once we all got somewhat settled, we figured it was just easier to go to the pool then to drag all the stuff down to the beach.
We spend an hour or so down at the pool and for some reason during that time, Rob thought it would be a good idea for him and Connor go to into the hotel's hot tub....even after making the statement, "I wonder how much DNA is in that thing!" Anyway, after we got ready we went to Captain George's for some yummy seafood. The wait wasn't bad and overall..it was a really nice dinner.
We woke up around 9am Saturday morning and Connor's eye is very swollen. Yes folks... he waits until vacation to get pink eye! Rob, Kenny, Connor, and I then have to make a trip around the area to find an urgent care so Connor can get some meds. Once we found one and were seen, we were back to the hotel around 12:30pm. I'll just call it a coincidence but Rob and Connor were the only two go to in the hot tub and they were the only two to get pink eye! Luckily, we were able to get a few hours in at the beach before it was time to get ready for dinner. The beach was fabulous and the kids had a great time. Sadly, this vacation was coming to an end and quickly.
We went out to dinner at a boardwalk restaurant called Ocean House (I think). Suggestion....DON'T GO! For some cheese sticks, two BLTs with onion rings, a grilled cheese with fries, and a burger with onion rings...oh and our drinks (teas, sprite, and milk), our bill was $75!! What a rip off! The service sucked which rubbed more salt in the wound!
Sunday was the day to leave and since we felt slighted because we had to spend time at the urgent care on Saturday, we went to the beach for a couple hours before heading home.
Overall, the trip was okay. Connor got pink eye and come to find out, Danielle broke the last two toes on her right foot because she got knocked over by a wave but her foot didn't want to move with her. I'm REALLY hoping all of this happened during this trip so that nothing eventful will happen when we go to Myrtle!!

I highly recommend going to Bobby McKey's at the National Harbor. It was such a great time and I really look forward to going back. I've never been to that area before and it was really nice. There were many places to shop and eat all the while being on what seemed like it's own little island. There was a lot going on there but once you went outside of the little area, there really wasn't much.
And...banking off my previous post, here is a picture of the bruise from my fall:

Beautiful...isn't it?!?! :-)

Random...
There really are so many things in my head that I can write about but I'll only pick a few this time.
1. Why Am I So Clumsy?!
I decided to write about this first because it's in the forefront of my mind while my thigh is thumping! I try, I really do try not to hurt myself. I don't wake up each day trying to figure out how I'll hurt myself that day. I don't! I'm just a clumsy person and I'm starting to think that it's hereditary because my mom has done things before to hurt herself and I've joked about how she needs to wear a bubble wrap outfit. I now need the same outfit! Usually every day I run into something, whether it's a coffee table or a wall. This are minor and sometimes don't leave a mark but when they do leave a bruise, they seem to stay around for a while. My iron level is okay so that's not the reason for them lingering. Anyway, in the past I've done things a little more severe such as burn myself as I'm putting things in the oven. I've done this a total of three times now - probably within the past year. Two of the times I have visual proof with scars. The third time was just a week ago and it was pretty bad. It is starting to heal and I'm doing my best trying to avoid it from also leaving a scar. Now just today, I was walking down steps at work and my shoes slipped and I slid/fell down a few steps. Luckily I didn't break a hip but my upper thigh is so sore! If it doesn't leave a bruise I will be really surprised. If it does, it's a guarantee to stay around for a while! So to sum this up...I'm clumsy and need to wear a bubble suit!
2. What Is Wrong With My Kid?
So in the movie Ace Ventura, there's a part where Ace goes "Weeeoooh" to someone's nipple. Ever since Connor was little, Rob would do this to him whenever we'd change his clothes. I guess if you do something enough times, it will stick in anyone's head. Recently, when Rob and I are getting Connor ready for bed and he's laying on the floor he'll say to Rob, "I weeeooooh" while pointing at Rob. At first we didn't really understand him or pay much attention but then he would continue saying it and get louder, "I weeeooooh, I WEEEOOOH". That's when we realized he wanted to "weeooh" Rob. To make him happy, Rob would lift up his shirt and let him "weeooh" him. That makes Connor happy and if Kenny is in the room he'll tell him, "I weeooh". Being the great big brother he is, Kenny will give in to Connor. Next and the only person left in the room is me. "I weeooh". Ummm...no, nope, sorry. Not happening. He'll normally ask me twice until I have to say, "You don't weeooh mommy" and then he'll do his rounds again with Rob and Kenny. It is cute but at what point will it be a little disturbing?
3. Skate Baby Skate!
This week Kenny's been going to in-line hockey camp at the Sportsplex. He has a friend that has actually played this past Spring so Kenny has expressed interest in wanting to play. When I found out the Sportsplex was holding two free weeks of hockey camp, I was all for signing him up. They are spread out as one is almost over and the next free week is in August. I wanted to see if it's really something he wants to do before paying the money for all the equipment. Unfortunately, I haven't really been able to see him participate but he's reported back to me that he is skating much better and it's definitely something he wants to do this Fall. "Since I really want to do this, can we go ahead and buy the equipment" is what Kenny has been asking me ever since Wednesday. I have to continuously tell him that I will not buy anything until he finished the last week of camp to make sure it's something he really wants to do! I believe the league will also let you rent the equipment but we've learned from using the used equipment this week - they stink and I would much rather buy Kenny new equipment that he stinks up on his own rather than equipment someone else stunk up! Before dishing out the money for the stick, helmet, skates, shin guards, elbow pads, etc., I want to make sure it is something he is interested in continuing. As of now....he's still all for it which is good!
Alrighty, that's enough :) I'm waiting for my leg to feel better and for this work week to end! Rob and I are going to the National Harbor this weekend with our buddies, Jason and Danielle to Bobby McKey's. I've never been to a piano bar but I'm sure it will be a good time and I'm excited for it!

Always Out-doing Herself!
So....I can't say enough times how much I love the wedding photographer that we used! They (Lori & Jon) are absolutely fabulous and I HIGHLY recommend Swadley Studios! I first found her when looking for high school friends on MySpace. I was reading on her profile about her love for photography and looked at a few pictures she had posted. They were amazing to say the least! The ideas and styles she has are fantastic and I think very hard to replicate. Yes - I know what you're photographing has a lot to do with the image but she seems to work her magic and I really believe she can make just about anything look beautiful! Even before getting engaged, I told Rob that if we were to ever get married, she will be my photographer! :-) Not only have I used her for our wedding but she has also taken pictures of Connor when he was 8 months old as well as our family photos in October 2008.
Because I'm not totally blog savvy, I have no idea how to add the slideshow but if you go to http://www.swadleystudio.com/slideshows/rjdd/ you'll be able to see the slideshow of her favorite photos from our wedding. All the photos taken can eventually be seen at www.swadleystudio.com/Durham.
